The Baxter Family – History of the Pearly – Present
Kim Baxter (nee Hooper) was the Pearly Princess of The Isle of Dogs Poplar; the Title of crowned Pearly King & Queen belongs to her Uncle and Aunt Chris & Joan Friend. When Kim married Gerry Baxter he was given the title of Pearly Prince of The Isle of Dogs Poplar to help the family with their charity work…
The Pearly King of Lambeth where Gerry & Kim lived and Gerry worked and was born asked them to accept a South London Title. We accepted the offer and became the Original Pearly King & Queen of Streatham. This Title is registered with Lambeth Town Hall and The Original Pearly Kings & Queens Association; all the family attended a reception in their honour in the Mayors Parlour to recognise the Title. The have 4 children all of which have grown up wearing Pearly suits as Pearly Prince Andrew and Pearly Princesses Jen, Sam and Charlie. They are pleased to say that they are all still interested in helping the family tradition of raising money and awareness for charities. Their son Andrew on his 19th Birthday wished for a Title of his own to collect for charity and it was agreed with Westminster Council, the Westminster Pearly Family and the Original Pearly Kings & Queens Association that he should have the Title of The Pearly King of Marylebone. Gerry was Treasurer for The Original Pearly Kings & Queens Association for 13 years and then became 1 of its 3 Trustees. In 2008 becoming it’s Vice Chairman. Alan Baxter Pearly Prince of Woolwich and brother of Gerry Baxter Pearly King of Streatham married Ginny (Virginia) Jolly the Pearly Queen of Blackheath in 1991. On their marriage Ginny passed her title to her step mother as her father Don Jolly the Pearly King of Blackheath was about to marry Dot (Dorothy) in 1992. Alan & Ginny Baxter in 1994 became the Pearly King & Queen of Grove Park, their daughter Eden aged 8 is their Pearly Princess and their son Cameron. On the death of his Grandfather Don Jolly in 1993 inherited his title and became the Pearly King of Blackheath. Although now living in Suffolk they return to Lambeth and Streatham in particular whenever we are asked and are able to help, although a great deal of their charity work is carried out in East Anglia for East Anglia’s Charities. They still go out between 1 and 4 times a week giving talks and attending/organising events. They were very pleased to be involved in the TV spectacular for the Queens 40th year of her Reign and the Queen Mothers 100th Birthday Celebration and again for the Queens Golden Jubilee which we attended with other family members and Pearly Families. Their family have been seen on TV for which a cheque is given by the stations for charity, in such programmes as Sir David Frosts 25 years on, The Richard & Judy Show and most recently The Paul O’Grady Show. They entertain at and for many and various clubs and charitable organisations; donations collected from these for 2007 were collected for The Neurology Dept of Addenbrookes Hospital and for E.A.C.H (East Anglia’s Children’s Hospice’s). For 2008 they collected for Mallard Ward, Papworth Hospital and for EACH and also later in the year for the Deben Family Centre for Christmas presents for the children and food hampers for the families. 2009 donations are being collected for E.A.C.H. and also the Deben Family Centre.

Hello, dear Pearly family.
I am wondering if you know of any Ewen kings or queens, maybe from way back in the beginning. My father’s dad Alec E Ewen told my father that his family were barrow boys, and I tried looking up a register. My dad has no records as he was adopted by his mum’s family and met his father whenhewas 21. I have found Sidney C Ewen and prior to that George Ewen born in Lambeth. George’s wife died in Stepney. My search started when my son told me about the Pearlies, and I would love to find out for sure if there are any records I can look at. Thank you very much.

Dear Pearly Baxter family
I am the speakers secretary for our St John’s and Highwoods Ladies Group in Colchester and I wondered if you are able to come and give talks and what your fee would be for 2022/2023. I have been reading about you all on the Internet and the history is very interesting. I look forward to hearing from you.

FAO Mr Gerry Baxter
I’m the speaker booking secretary of Mendlesham Over 60s Club and wondered if you still talk on origins of Pearly Kings and Queens of London. Debenham is only about 5 miles away from Mendlesham. We’re trying to book a speaker on Wednesday 24th September 2025 and wondered if you are available please?
